🌟 We are thrilled to share the video of episode #11 of our Patient Voice & Linguistic Validation Café podcast from our new series called Culture, Communication & Care Spotlight.🌟
💠Culture, Communication & Care Spotlight on Amy Dara Hochberg, PhD💠
🌍 Welcome to the Culture, Communication & Care Spotlight with Mark Gibson and Nur Ferrante. A space within the Patient Voice & Linguistic Validation Café podcast where health communication, cultural sensitivity and diversity are given voice cross-culturally, through experiences of patients and professionals in the field.🌎
🌟In this episode we had the pleasure of having as special guest Amy Dara Hochberg, PhD. She is a North American Health communication researcher, and medical and academic translator based in Barcelona, Spain. We invite you to discover her unique story as a person with sensory disability and her multiple gifts for languages and health communication.🌟
The conversation focused on discussing sensory disabilities, particularly hearing impairments. Amy explained the correct terminology for hearing disabilities, emphasizing the preference for "deaf" for severe to profound hearing loss, "hard of hearing" for mild to moderate loss, and avoiding "hearing impaired." She also shared her personal and professional experiences, highlighting her multilingual abilities and work as a researcher and health communication expert. The discussion aimed to increase sensitivity and understanding of how to address and communicate with individuals who are deaf or hard of hearing.
